Pre Primary Curriculum

Children between the ages of 3 and 6 might seem like they are only just beginning life’s journey, but their brains develop faster and more significantly than during any future time in their life. In fact, more than 85 per cent of their brain development is already in place.Hence, it is pivotal that they are provided a learning environment that stimulates their cognitive abilities to the best possible extent. Preschool provides the children with the opportunity to broaden and deepen their essential competencies which will make them ready for a life of learning.

Competences to be developed in pre schooling:

Psychomotor competences are developed with those activities that are primarily movement oriented which require both cognitive and motor processes. Children are engaged in activities which include coordination and posture.

Children develop Gross Motor skills as they gain movement of the arms, legs and trunk using large groups of muscles to sit, stand, walk, and run keeping balance and changing positions.

They learn Fine Motor skills using hands to be able to eat, draw, dress, play, write and do many other things. Preschool-level craft activities which require children to use dexterity-focused creative play develop children’s fine motor skills.

The students learn to interact with others, having relationships with family, friends and teachers, cooperating and responding to the feelings of others, show empathy to the neighborhood. Through collaborative play and learning alongside each other, preschool children learn how to respect and get along with others which further develops their language skills, self control andoverall social skills.
Teachers guide children through resolving conflicts that may arise during creative play or structured learning projects.

It involves critical thinking, learning, understanding cause and effect, problem-solving, reasoning and remembering. The children are able to compares similarities and differences of objects. They are able to apply their imagination in problem solving. We all can sympathize with how difficult it is for young learners to sit still and pay attention for more than a few minutes. But the nurturing environment of a preschool is key for children to develop their attention spans.

Communicative competences involve both understanding (receptive communication) and expressing (expressive communication) competencies. Preschoolers learn the ways to speak by using sounds, gestures, facial expression and body language for communicating and understanding what others say. A child’s ability to ask questions, express their feelings and convey their needs, both through spoken words and through body language are of utmost

importance to their ability to succeed socially and academically.

By the age of three, children begin to learn to write their names and read simple words. It includes listening and comprehension, oral skills, vocabulary development, pre-literacy skills such as phonological awareness, print awareness, letter-sound correspondence, building words and sentences. Children begin developing pre-mathematical skills. These are skills such as an emerging number sense, and a concept of measurement and shape. During preschool children learn to recognize numbers and begin counting things. It provides the foundation for later learning.

Developments of self-help skills, habit formation, safety, hygiene are some of the skills that are addressed in the early years. Facilitating the right stimulation at the right time is the key to the networking of brain cells, which shapes the way individuals behave, think and learn for the rest of their lives. Hence, providing adequate opportunities for stimulating experiences favorably affects various learning abilities.

Curriculum that inspires a love of learning

Pre schooling is an exciting step in a child’s elementary school journey. The school offers the individualized attention needed for this. With age-specific curriculum and skill building activities, we will make sure that the children are excited about learning and are confident to take a big leap forward. The literacy programme in early years is a play based multi-sensory approach to learning. Our goal is to help children develop socially, emotionally and linguistically

Inspired by the Montessori Theory Approach, the school offers a pedagogy that elevates and empowers the child in her pursuit of the skills which develop motor control and coordination, and develops independence, concentration, and a sense of responsibility. It develops not only child’s academic intelligence but also emotional, social, and practical intelligence and lesstangible skills, such as self-esteem, security, and confidence.

Our preschool curriculum includes:

Each child is valued as a unique individual. A one-of-a-kind child assessment process that provides teachers with real-time insight into children’s development that can inform lesson planning and teaching.

Fostering a student’s natural desire to learn through enquiry and connecting their classroom knowledge with real life incidents.

A whole child curriculum supports all skills like Cognitive, linguistic, social-emotional, and physical – to develop future learners, leaders, and citizens.

Creative, hands-on and immersive learning experiences that foster a joyful childhood, encourage relationship-building, and develop a foundation for future success.

Circle Time activities develop positive relationships between the children and give them the tools to engage with each other. The whole class participation in Circle Time gives children the ability to socialize with, learn more about, and relate to their classmates. Nurturing social-emotional development early on is an important part of kindergarten.
The teachers encourage children to ask questions, fostering more than just an interest in facts—but a thirst to understand how things work.

An environment that encourages meaningful, engaging and respectful interactions among the stakeholders: the children, parents and faculty members are welcomed at Siddhantam.
